The YPPG is excited to announce a partnership with Zero Hour NYC. The two groups are organizing, along with other youth activist groups, the NYC Youth Climate March happening on July 21st, 2018 from 11:00am - 12:30pm (preliminary location from Columbus Circle ending at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza by the United Nations Headquarters). It will be followed by an hour-long rally from 12:45 pm - 2:00pm with student speakers from various environmental justice movements, including our chair, Sylvana Widman!
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, let us know by email or reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also join one of the march's organizing subcommittees to have a voice in the planning of the march. Zero Hour's facebook, twitter, and Instagram can be found here.
The broader goal in YPPG’s involvement is advocating for more environmentally conscious legislation. The group supports the passage of the Climate and Community Protection Act (CCPA). The bill would kickstart the Department of Environmental Conservation's establishment of more environmentally friendly policies. In addition, the bill would compel the city to completely transition to renewable energy sources by 2050, among other important actions to better New York State's environment.
Stay tuned for more updates on this push for environmental justice!
